Student tips for overcoming stress

Free Student Articles

We can all suffer from stressful situations and studies have shown that students become more stressed when it comes to managing their workload and time efficiently. Here is some advice on how to better manage your time and therefore eliminate some of the stress and anxiety.

The three main causes of stress in students

* A large amount of work being needed to be completed in a short amount of time

* Guilt or worry in neglecting other aspects of their life in order to meet deadlines

* Not being able to understand something and not being able to find anyone to give them help

Ways you can deal with these issues

* Design and plan a timetable for studying and keep to it no matter what turns up, make sure that you include all submission dates and deadlines.

* Use software such as Microsoft Excel to map out deadlines and submission dates and print this out and stick it up somewhere where you can see it. By doing so you can clearly see what needs doing and when.

* Pace yourself with your reading studies to make sure that you don't get behind.

* Try to spend some time each week on different modules, this way you won't feel they are getting ahead of you.

* If you are stuck with something never give up trying to get help, explore all avenues such as friends, family, tutors and look online, there are many forums which offer advice and there are sites which give help on specific topics.

Other causes of anxiety and depression

Very often not knowing anyone, particularly if you are shy, can lead to feelings of anxiety, stress and depression, anxiety can often lead to loneliness because approaching people and making friends can be extremely hard for those shy.

However if you fall into this category, then just remember there are many other people who are just like you although they might not shown it outright. A good place to start making friends is within your study groups or chosen subjects, talking about the work which has been given out is a good opener for a conversation.

Students are plagued with lack of self-confidence and this can also cause problems with low self-esteem and cause stress, this feeling can very often be brought on by lack of believing they can produce adequate results with their work.

Most new students often feel this way but it is important to remember that all work which is submitted will give feedback on their strengths and weaknesses and will show them areas that may need to be improved upon.
