When you are seriously considering taking your degree online and you start to research the programmes which are on offer you will be surprised by the large amount of schools, colleges and universities which offer courses and degrees. Having decided which course or degree you are going for, now you will have to decide which college, school or university you are going to sign up with. Here are some points to consider when choosing:

How much is the total course going to cost me?

You should always look into the course in great detail and see what you actually get for your money, does the price quoted include everything or are there hidden charges involved. Regard those schools and colleges which seem unusually cheap, warily as these very often have hidden charges and usually end up costing you more, always check for any additional fees for course materials.

Are the tutors experienced?

A reputable school or college who is offering courses and degrees should offer help via teachers and tutors by way of phone calls, e-mail or chat support and of course, a tutor will be grading your coursework. You should always choose a college or school which has tutors and teachers who have the relevant qualifications, tutors should hold at the very least a MA degree in their chosen field.

Choose a school or college that is accredited

When choosing a school or college to get your degree it is very important that you choose one which offers an accredited degree at the end, your regional association should recognise the degree otherwise it will be worth nothing.

Don't take their word for it that they are waiting for accreditation

If the school or college isn't accredited then don't take their word for it that they are waiting to be accredited, while they might be waiting for the accreditation they might not get it and if you sign up with them, then you're stuck with them and your degree could be worthless.

Do you need any special software or hardware for the course?

Depending on the type of course you take, you will have to make sure that your computer can run what is needed for the course. Most courses will rely on your computer being capable of running streaming audio and video, at the very least, you will need a word processor on your computer to do your coursework and it has to be in a format that the tutor can open and read when you give your coursework in. You should always check what formats the course material comes in and the type and make sure that your computer is capable of running the software.

Do schools and colleges offer all degrees?

If you are looking to earn a specific degree then you should make sure the school or college you are looking at offers the degree as not all schools and colleges have all degrees on offer.

Does the school or college supply all materials and software?

Double check to make sure that all the software and materials needed are included in the price of the course, while most colleges and schools will supply all the materials needed for you to complete the course a few state that additional software may be needed.
